The Barrier Tent is a protective medical device designed to reduce significantly the risk of viral aerosol shedding from patients with SARS-CoV-2 virus and other highly pathogenic human coronaviruses during common medical procedures. The Barrier Tent creates additional protection between the healthcare provider and ventilated patient with Covid-19.

This pioneering innovative device has been developed for the Center for Medical Simulation and Innovation of the Medical University of Warsaw (CSMI WUM) under the leadership of its President and Manager, dr Marcin Kaczor, an anesthesiologist and intensive care specialist affiliated with the Medical University of Warsaw.

The Barrier Tent is a simple construction, easy to use, disposable and economical. The prototype is made of a 0.3 mm thick translucent foil. Resembling a small pop-up tent, the device covers the upper body area and head of the patient, with two sleeve openings with elastic ends providing easy and secure access to treat the patient. The structure requires a ground stabilization system and reinforcement, consisting of adhesive tape adhesive as an integral element.
